It is always a safe practice to regularly take backup of your website so that it can be used in case something goes down road. Also, whenever you are doing any action which will be irreversible, it is recommended that you take a full backup of your website. So in this tutorial we are going to learn how to take the full backup of the website and then how to restore a website from the backup file.

Steps to take a full backup of your website.

Step 1: Log into cPanel

Step 2: Under the Files section, Click on Backup

Step 3: Now you’ll see various options to take a backup including both full and partial backup options. Select the one which is appropriate for your use case. We are going to take a full backup of the website. So click on “Download a Full Website Backup” button.

Step 4: On the next screen, you need to select the destination location of the backup. After that click on “Generate Backup” button to start the backup process. Also you can download a previously taken backup from this screen itself.

Step 5: Once the backup process is started, you’ll be navigated to below screen telling you that backup process has started and you’ll be notified of the email address provided by you on the previous screen once the backup is completed. You can also click on “Go Back” button and monitor the status of the backup.

Step 6: Once the backup is ready, just click on the backup file to download it.

Step 3: Now here you get various options to restore your website like restore a Home directory backup, MySQL database backup and Email Forwarder backup. As we want to restore home directory backup, we’ll upload the file downloaded while creating a backup and click on upload.
